I would like to thank all the staff at Federation Training that have assisted Electrix and myself with our training needs. The training requirements in this industry can be very frustrating at times. It is nice to work with people who understand our needs and are willing to go that extra mile to help us meet our requirements.
In particular some of your staff have gone to great lengths to help us by moving pre-scheduled training, arranging training when none was scheduled, and finding trainers to deliver training when none were available.
I truly appreciate all your assistance and I look forward to working with you all closely over the coming year.

Federation Training have provided short course cable jointing training for many of our field staff, and since the introduction of Certificate III in Cable Jointing apprentice training, we have had four apprentices complete the course and currently have a further eight apprentices at various year levels.
Underground Cable Systems is a participant in the Industry – Federation Training interaction process aimed at further developing the standard and value of the training services offered by the Federation Training Chadstone Campus.
Our experience has been one of interest and enthusiasm by the instructors and staff of Federation Training and especially in recent times an above expectation response to our needs with respect to both apprentice training and the challenges of the cable jointer RPL program.
Underground Cable Systems look forward to continuing the relationship we have with Federation Training, for it has proven beneficial to our employees, our organisation, the Electricity Supply Industry and to Federation Training.

Underground Cable Systems Electrical Theory Training Group 2014
UCS undertakes underground power distribution cable and associated asset installation, generally in Industrial and Urban Residential developments. We employ a field crew of approximately 45 workers, the majority of whom undertake cable jointing as their principle activity.
Due to the non-availability for complete Certificate III cable jointing apprenticeship training in Victoria until 2009, new jointers undertook a limited number of the Certificate III units and with on-the-job training and experience were recognised cable jointers. UCS engaged and trained a considerable number of cable jointers under this system. UCS is currently participating in the Victorian Electrical Industry initiative to upgrade the qualifications of these jointers to full Certificate III level through RPL assessment and additional training as required.
Electrical Theory Study Group: It was identified that some jointers required formal electrical theory training and a training package was tailored with Federation Training. Concerns were held by UCS and the trainer as to the mathematics skills of some of the participants, particularly those who had not undertaken higher secondary level schooling prior to joining the workforce. The trainer devised and implemented a preliminary program which assessed the maths skills of the participants and provided on-going support, as required, to enable the participants to undertake the Electrical Theory Units.
I am pleased to report that the group responded extremely well to the preliminary introduction and practice in the requisite maths skills and with the ensuing lift in individual confidence all participants went on to competently undertake the Electrical Theory Unit training and display a high level of understanding and application of the subject material. We anticipate that all these participants while shortly achieve Certificate III in ESI Cable Jointing, aided significantly by the efforts of the trainer and his training process.
