SEAMEC offers a full day course for recreational boating enthusiasts who intend to cross any bar to the ocean and wish to return in a safe manner. This course also forms the pre-requisite training for commercial operators wishing to gain a Local Knowledge Endorsement LK8 for the Lakes Entrance Bar – Passenger Carrying vessels.
Gain confidence in your ability to understand and negotiate any ocean access bar. The course comprises classroom theory, practical on-water demonstrations and introduces interpretation of charts, weather maps, cloud formations and assessment of conditions at a bar or ocean entrance.

Qualifications and RecognitionUpon completion of this course students will receive a Statement of Participation.

- Commercial Operators - Certificate of Competency as Coxswain or higher
- Recreational - Recreational Marine Licence (boat licence)
Recreational operators will not operate the training vessel on the Bar, however they will accompany the trainer in the vessel while safe bar crossing is demonstrated.
Professional operators will be expected to take control of the vessel under the direct supervision of the trainer and demonstrate safe bar crossings in a 1-on-1 format.
