Federation Training works within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), and offers a wide range of nationally recognised courses.

Our courses and qualifications are offered at the following AQF levels:

Certificate I and II

These introductory level courses are generally designed to provide basic workplace skills or prepare you for further study.

In trade sectors, some of these programs are also referred to as Pre-Apprenticeships, which provide students with valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance their prospects of securing an Apprenticeship.

Selection for Certificate I and II level courses does not require the successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Certificate III

At this level, courses are designed to provide workplace skills for a wide range of industries. In trade sectors, Certificate III courses may mark the beginning of Apprenticeship training. In some industries, Certificate III level qualifications may be required before you can commence work. This level of study can also lead to higher level qualifications.

Certificate IV

Courses at this higher level are designed to prepare students for work in sectors and roles that may require complex skills. This qualification is designed to enhance your career development prospects and completing a Certificate IV level course may qualify you to take on a supervisory role in the workplace.

Diploma courses are designed to assist people to develop the skills necessary for managing a small business, working closely with experienced professionals or operating at a high level of technical capacity. This qualification can also provide significant credits and pathways in to higher education or University degree programs.

Advanced Diploma

Generally, these courses expand upon Diploma level qualifications to provide training for management positions where employees are expected to possess a high level of expertise within a particular skill area. As with a Diploma, Advanced Diploma courses can provide you with significant credits into University programs. The Advanced Diploma is the highest level of qualification currently offered by Federation Training.

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

The VCE is awarded to students upon successful completion of Years 11 and 12 and allows entry to tertiary institutions.

Students in Year 12 are assessed using school coursework and external examinations. Outstanding students can extend their studies by undertaking a university subject within the VCE.

Federation Training does not offer full-time VCE studies to school age students. However, people over the age of 18, who have been out of full-time education for more than one year, are eligible to enrol in the VCE for Adults program.

Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a new hands-on option for Years 11 and 12 students. It gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work.

An alternative to VCE, this course incorporates English, Maths, IT, personal development and vocational specific training. VCAL is ideal for young people who wish to go to TAFE, begin an apprenticeship or secure their first job. Successful completion will give a Year 12 qualification.
