A Maffra Pre-School is the beneficiary of a cubby house donation from Federation Training’s Fulham campus.

Year 12 VET students from Federation Training’s Fulham campus completed the cubby house as part of their 2017 training course.  Students constructed two cubby houses last year at Fulham, while a number of others were built at the Yallourn and Bairnsdale Trade Centre campuses.

Federation Training’s Head of Department, Construction, Chris Partington, said the practical skills taught throughout the Gippsland campuses are put to very good use in the construction phase.

“Our students are given high quality tuition and this is reflected in the finished product as they can take the full year to complete,” Chris said.

“Federation Training is very pleased to provide these buildings to worthy community groups as a donation or make available for purchase.”

Chris said around 200 hours of work - by a group of four students - go into making the structures and the workmanship is very good.

“We are proud of the work our students do, and they are very well constructed cubby houses that we hope find very good homes in the community,” he said.

President of Maffra’s Glassford St Kindergarten, Kristy Phillips, said the cubby house would be raffled and the proceeds would assist the Kinder’s fund-raising efforts in 2018.

“We have been raising funds to build an additional verandah at the Kinder and this will certainly help us toward the $15 k required for the extension,” Kristy said.

“Our pre-schoolers even chipped in to do the painting and it has come up a treat.”

The Cubby Raffle was drawn on Monday 18 December and the lucky new owner is Kassy O’Kelly from Bairnsdale.

“Congratulations to Kassy and thankyou kindly to everyone who purchased tickets. We raised $2301.65 to go towards the new verandah construction,” Kristy said.
