Course Overview

This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

The course provides students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to prepare them for such job roles as; accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bookkeeping and administrative roles. Local job opportunities are predominantly in small business and organisations such as health care, education and local government.

Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the educational requirements for registration. Other conditions apply including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the Board as this is reviewed regularly.

The course is delivered online over 18 months and incorporates weekly webinars. Webinars are interactive to allow discussions, questions , software demonstrations and current issues. They are recorded so that all students have access.

There are also weekly timetabled drop in sessions for assistance with course material and assessments and weekly timetabled online assistance.

This course is delivered with a combination of online and on campus workshops.

Qualifications and Recognition

Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

Career Opportunities

Local job roles are usually small business but also include organisations such as health care, education, local government. Students with prior employment experience can register with the Tax Practitioner’s Board to work as a BAS Agent after completion of the course.
